Free Financial Book Offer
January 10, 2009 by Steph
Financial resolutions are being made in many households this year – I know they are in ours. We’ve been working on putting our house in order, financially and otherwise, so we can help save the planet. If part of your plan to green your family includes increasing the green in your wallet, this news is for you!
This week Oprah hosted Suze Orman as part of Oprah’s Best Life series. Suze Orman is a financial advisor and the author of several financial books, including The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom and The Courage to be Rich. Ms Orman has just published a new book, Suze Orman’s 2009 Action Plan, which is currently available FOR FREE on Oprah’s website. (The book retails for $9.99 in bookstores.)
The free download of the book is available until 11:59 central time on Thursday, January 15. Both English and Spanish versions of the book are available. The download requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, a link to which is on the page linked above. I had issues downloading the book when using Firefox but it worked like a charm in IE.
The book includes information on debt reduction, reducing expenses, dealing with real estate in these challenging times, emergency funds, paying for college even if college savings have been reduced, and much more.
When Richard and I met eleven years ago, we both had serious (and I mean serious) student loan and credit card debt. Combined our finances were a nightmare. We used the debt snowball method Ms Orman describes since it minimizes the interest paid while paying the total debt. We’ve paid off all our credit card debt and have just one student loan left while also funding an emergency fund and retirement and college savings. For those of you in the midst of paying off debt, I can tell you that all the hard work is completely worth it. We had no idea how we were going to dig our way out when we started. If we can do it, you can do it.
The world faces enormous challenges today. Finances are going to play a key role in our environmental, energy, health, and economic justice decisions. Citizens will need to encourage, cajole, and push their governments to do the right thing rather than the easy thing. Worries about keeping a roof overhead or creditors from the door can suck one’s time and energy completely. For us to have the stamina we’ll need to fight for the earth, we need to have our own houses, including our personal finances, in order. Ms Orman’s book can help you begin that process.
Here’s wishing you and your family a fruitful and prosperous 2009!
