When I sat down to watch this season’s Project Runway, I was not thinking about Greening Families. We recorded the show so we could watch the presidential debate last night so I saved my viewing for a lunchtime treat. As always, I was so impressed with the ability of the designers to create beautiful clothes from scratch and began dreaming once again about learning how to sew. In all my spare time. . . I might need to wait until the girls are older. :)
Then it happened. As Leanne Marshall was talking about her collection, she mentioned that half of her fabrics were sustainable fabrics. Naturally that comment caught my attention. Then during the judging, Nina Garcia mentioned the sustainable fabrics as a sign that Leanne was looking ahead in her work and I knew that Leanne was going to win. And she did!
How exciting that (1) sustainable fabrics were used to create such pretty clothes and that (2) sustainable fabrics are being explicitly discussed as the future of fashion. My sense is that the issue of sustainability is moving closer and closer to the tipping point and that is really exhilarating.
Congrats to all the finalists of Project Runway – I thought your designs were gorgeous!
