Talking Trash

For some reason, I’ve been reading about trash a great deal lately. Here are two of my recent trashy finds.

Bangladesh scientists have created a method to produce petroleum from organic municipal waste. After collecting the waste, they decompose it to produce bio-oil, then refine it to produce petroleum.According to Yunus Miah, the principal engineer of the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research which developed the method, they are now investigating commercial production costs and options. The possibilities are exciting to consider!

Also in trash news, the slowing in America’s economy is also slowing the flow of trash into landfills. With Americans generating 4.5 pounds of garbage per day according to Recycle Bank, the reduction in trash is a trend I hope continues.
