smilinggreenmom (love that name, BTW), I hope you find neti pots useful!

We never had good luck with the "nose suckers." We tried it with both our daughters but they cried so much when we did that their noses always ended up more stuffed up than they had been!

We're big probiotic fans as well. We recently started making our own yogurt, which is sooo easy that I wish we would have done it earlier.

A neti pot? Wow, never heard of this before! I used to love the "nose suckers" as I like to call them, that we used on the kids when they were babies. Gone are the days of nose suckers, but we do use a humidifier in their rooms at night when they are congested and they take their Vidazorb bellyboost probiotic every day. I can't say that it prevents a cold but I can say that I love them for lots of reasons! I find them especially useful for our son's allergies and Eczema (which they have almost entirely cleared his skin) and they do replenish good bacteria in our system. Thanks for the great green tips!

Stacey, thanks for your comment. One of my good friends uses what she calls a squirter and loves it. However, we have not given one a try (in large part because we are so happy with our neti pot) and I only write about products and services we have actually tried ourselves.

I'm glad you found something that has helped you so much!

I love your 7 remedies, and I'd like to add to the one on the neti....being a doc and an allergy/sinus sufferer! The neti is nice, and does an okay job - but it isn't as good as the systems that make a good seal at the nostril and create an effective flow through the nose. With a good seal, you can draw out sinus contents gently and naturally, you control the wash pressure, and it feels really good - it's not as difficult as the neti and it feels fantastic. There are many effective systems out there, but my favorite is the Nasopure one - it feels best, is easiest to keep clean, has NO BPA in the bottle, and it's kept me off antibiotics for over two years.
