Colleges Going Green
August 16, 2008 by Steph
Those with college-aged children may want to check out the recent article in USA Today regarding the green efforts of colleges. From recycling for moving boxes to dorm rooms with solar thermal heating, colleges and universities across the country are moving to reduce their environmental impact.
The article quotes Casey Pierzchala, a graduate of George Washington University who now works on campus as an environmental sustainability project assistant, as saying, “The changes that are predicted are in our lifetimes, not our parents’, so it’s become a little bit more real for us.” That is a powerful thought.
A sidebar to the article also provides green shopping tips. Suggestions include computers and printers with the Energy Star rating, inexpensive plates, and reusable water bottles.
Congrats to all the new college students (and their parents)!
